Without Sanctuary is a collection of photographs documenting the tragic history of lynching in America. The collection emerged from James Allen’s deep interest in American history and culture. While researching, Mr. Allen discovered that photographs of lynchings were disturbingly common, yet their historical significance and impact had not been widely studied.
